Trending in 2016: As seen in the Big Apple!

View of the NYC Skyline from the Brooklyn Bridge

Earlier this month, Annie from Red Egg Design Group visited the Big Apple! What better place to look for trends for the New Year than to visit the most fashionable city in the United States?! We're not sure, either!

So of course, while we were there we did a lot of shopping at the surplus of amazing design showrooms that call home in NYC. Our favorite, was of course, the infamous ABC Carpet and Home. If you haven't been, the next time you are there you should absolutely go check it out! It did not disappoint.

At ABC Home we looked around (on all 6 floors!) and compiled a list of what we think are going to be some of the Top Trends of 2016.

1) Pink & Blue

ABC Home, New York City

So, yes, we kind of cheated on this trend - Pantone already established the Colors of the Year for 2016, and basically did the work for us on this one. If you haven't heard already, yes, there are 2 colors this year, Rose Quartz (a pale pink) and Serenity (a pale blue), which pair nicely together. At ABC Home, we saw a lot of vignettes featuring the light shades and pairing them with textured wood floors and carrara marble!

We loved this vignette as well, and thought the combination of the natural organic wood texture and the pale pink metal chairs created nice contrast and visual interest at this dining table! The addition of the opalescent blue and pink serving dish on the table illustrated nicely the suggestion made by Pantone that the colors play super nicely together!

This blue side table is another way to bring in the Pantone color in a more subtle way - maybe you don't want to use such a bold shade of periwinkle - so we love the idea of adding subtle accents throughout a living room, for example!

2) Gold Accents

Of course, by this point you have probably noticed that brass is back in a big way! One thing that we are noticing for the new year is that all gold tones - from dull antiqued brass to shiny rose gold - are here to stay!

We love these Rose Gold side tables and think they're a great example of how you can bring these gold tones into any space in a bold way. These tables would be perfect in a tone-on-tone type of space where they can really stand out! We also love the idea of pairing them with navy blue for high impact and contrast!

This was quite possibly our favorite vignette in the entire 6-floor store. Not only is that marble inlay geometric print table one of the coolest, most bold tables we've ever seen - but the lighting is all to die for. All of these light fixtures featured super bold metallic frames, ranging from Rose Gold to Brushed Nickel. We even loved the idea of a cluster of different lights over a bold table for major impact. Lighting is one of the most straightforward, yet impactful ways of adding gold tones to your home in 2016!

3) Scandinavian-Inspired Designs

This third trend is one that we have been noticing a lot lately. It's no wonder, as some of the most iconic furniture pieces and interiors have come from this design style. From the Eames to Hans Wegner, we have been seeing all kinds of Scandinavian furnishings trending for a lot time now, especially with the popularity of Midcentury Modern design gaining popularity and devotion over the past couple of years. So of course, ABC Home featured many Scandinavian-inspired furnishings, executed in completely unique ways.

This vignette's streamlines and clean, geometric shapes exude Scandinavian modern design. This chaise's modern lines are contrasted nicely with ABC Home's quintessential over-dyed textures and textiles. We love the additional of the modern black metal side table, as well.

This space is once again Scandinavian-inspired with an ABC Home edge. We love the way they used a crisp, white modern sofa and accented it with colorful pillows in varied shapes and sizes. The wood and cane side chairs pay homage to the classics like Wegner but are warmed up by the addition of a plush throw blanket and the various textiles in the space. We love how all of the varying textures and colors warm up the Scandinavian design and keep it from becoming overly stark!

Our trip to ABC Home (and New York City) were of course, too short, and we can't wait to go back! We loved shopping around and figuring out our picks for the next top trends.

Of course, these are just a sampling of what's to come for 2016 - but we are so excited for this year and what's to come!
